Style Icons ::52 Lists Project::

I can appreciate good style
even though I have no style.

I reach back to the 1950s and 1960s for good fashion.
Audrey Hepburn, who is probably on everyone's fashion list,
 always looked natural and flawless
wearing Hollywood outfits
or her own comfy capri pants with a polo shirt.

The Kennedys
just exuded the style of the times --
whether at a fancy Ball or
relaxing on the coast.

Now, if I can only get someone to style
fashionable, comfy, washable, long skirts,
with pockets,
that I can wear at work.
Anyone?

Who are your style icons?

Good Things to Bake ::52 Lists Project::

(I only listed those things that I have actually baked)

::brownies::
possibly my favorite dessert!

::potatoes::
I'm telling you that a baked potato
with butter and sour cream is a complete, delicious meal :)

::pizza::
I only made this once -- all from scratch, but then...
I forgot to put on the tomato sauce!

::chocolate chip cookies::
another chocolate dessert that I baked
several times in my life.
(if you were wondering,
the best one you can buy
is at BRICK OVEN)

Good Things to Have for Breakfast ::52 Lists Project::

::french toast::
Waffles are good, pancakes are fine, but french toast is superb!

::hot chocolate::
especially on a frosty morning.
It's the perfect complement to any breakfast item.

::cream cheese omelet::
I first had this delicious dish at a neighborhood eatery.

::buttered toast with applesauce::
a go-to quickie meal.
what my dad would make me
whenever I was home, sick, in bed.

::hash browns::
go with any eggy breakfast food.

::crepes with fruit::
so light. so tasty.

::cream of wheat::
I grew up eating hot oatmeal, so
it was a treat whenever my mom switched
to yummy cream of wheat to eat.

::oatmeal with honey::
will forever remind me of breakfasts in Argentina.
It was all we could afford.

::english muffins::
when just toasted bread is not enough.
All those nooks and crannies
filled with melted butter and sweet jam.

What are your favorite breakfast foods?

My Favorite Flowers ::52 Lists Project::

::daisy::
They are every-day-friendly flowers.
Ones you can just pick off the side of the road
and stick in a cupful of water to brighten your day.

::garden rose::
I think of them as antique-looking roses
with their many layers of petals.
They remind me of an era gone by
when flowers really meant something.

::cherry blossom::
My family waited for them to bloom every year.
We would pack ourselves in the station wagon and visit them.
Where I grew up,
"The plantings of cherry trees originated in 1912 as a gift of friendship to the People of the United States from the People of Japan."
So nice of the Japanese people. Thank you.

::gerbera daisy::
I discovered these simple, colorful flowers as a young adult.
They are such happy flowers.

::white roses::
I hadn't thought much of flowers on our wedding day.
We hadn't planned for a reception, so there was no need.
When I finally decided that I might want a bouquet,
I consulted with a local floral designer
and when she quoted the price to me, I'm sure I gasped out loud.
Then I thought I'd just go to the neighborhood florist
and pick up some flowers there.
No luck.
They decided to close early the day I walked over to their store.
The day of our marriage, we walked out of the Temple
and my 5-year-old niece handed me a bouquet of white roses
that had been tied with white ribbon.
It turns out my sister, directed by my mom,
picked them up on their way to attend our wedding.

::red poppy::
They are not easy flowers to find where I live.
Across the street from where I work,
there are a few that have been planted
and everytime they bloom,
I'm ready with my camera for they don't seem to last very long.
Oh, and have you seen Monet's painting "Red Poppies"?

Things I Do Every Day ::52 Lists Project::

::pray::

"I said, We pray, pray, ah yeah, we pray, pray
We got to pray just to make it today" -MC Hammer
(hee, hee. this song flashed across my mind when I sat down to write this)

...whether it be out loud or in my heart,
I can't live a day without praying to my Heavenly Father.

::listen to music::
I usually wake up with a song in my head (Today's was XTC's Supergirl).
Then throughout the day I listen to music
while I get ready in the morning, work and sleep.

::"I love you"::
she proclaims as she leans in to kiss her husband goodbye.
Then she pulls back the door handle and exits the car,
looking back at him with a smile and turns to...

...ride the train::
every day to get to work.

::read::
I'm always reading ...whether it be signs, notes, books, blogs, facebook, cards, newspapers, magazines, letters, ingredients, subtitles, etc. Wherever written letters appear, I stop and READ it. It doesn't even have to be in English,
I'll try and figure out other languages!

::wander around::

"'Cause I'm a wanderer yeah a wanderer
I roam around around around..." -Dion

(same here, this song just came to mind)

OK, not like that song! But if I feel comfortable enough in an area, I'll go and check things out.
I like to see what's out there...

and ::snap photos::
of whatever I see. There's so much interesting beauty all around,
I can't stand for it to be for my eyes alone ...
I have to share it with someone.

::write::
It makes me feel good to take pen to hand and just write it out.
I have papers and notebooks filled with stuff that's not very fascinating, but I JUST HAVE TO WRITE.

::eat chocolate::
Never a day goes by without it.
(it usually comes in the form of an m&m)

::watch TV/movie::
I will relax by turning on the TV.
You will most likely find me watching the History Channel or a PBS station. Sometimes I'll even catch American Idol, The Voice, or America's Got Talent. And if none of that interests me,
I'll put in a DVD that I borrowed from the library or from my own collection and watch that.

::sleep::
ahhhh sleep. nothing better at the end of a day.

What are some things you do every day?

I've just discovered that this is a tasty treat

::Lays original potato chips::
you really can't eat just one!

::mozarella string cheese::
my go-to quick snack at work

::Hershey almond bar::
chocolatey crunchy goodness

::tangerines::
a perfectly wrapped snack and I love the way the sweet smell lingers afterward

Favorite Smells ::52 Lists project::

::white musk::
 I buy bottles of the lotion from The Body Shop (but they changed the formula and it doesn't smell the same on me *pout*)

::sunscreen lotion::
The beach! Need I say more?

::Nation Air & Space Museum::
What the what?
As soon as I enter their doors, my childhood envelopes me.

::bookstores::
all those new book (or even used book) smells are just calming and soothing. A lifetime of reading does that to me :)

::lilacs::
My mom grew lilac bushes in our front yard.  The slight smell wafted through our home in the summer.

::cinnamon::
It just exudes a feeling of cozy warmth

What are your favorite smells?

52 Lists project begins!

I love listS! As a kid I'd write out lists of TV shows, actors, candy, books, animals, songs, and on and on .... there was something satisfying about it.

So, you can imagine my surprise when I found the blog, Meet Me at Mikes, where she said
"I've wanted to do a 52 project since I realised that I was rubbish at the whole 365 project thing."
So she's going to post a list every week in 2013 and I've decided that I will follow along.

Here are my first 3 lists:
