WHERE haveYOU been?

I thought I'd share free downloadables from q.a. design.
Who wants to go here?

I've always wanted to go here
I've been here
I'm so glad I've been here!

I want to print out the states that have been significant in our lives and frame them.

Very kind of q.a. design to share!

Do you remember any special stories your grandparents told you? ~Family History Tuesday~

Both sets of my grandparents lived in another country.

My Mom's mother passed away before my mother was married and before any of us were born.  Her father passed away sometime in my childhood, but I never met him.

I met my Dad's parents when we traveled to the country where they lived.  I was only  four- years-old. I believe we stayed there for 2 months or so. At such a young age I don't remember if they ever told us any stories. I'm not even sure we could understand their language.

My only memory of my paternal grandfather is that I liked to rub his cheeks and feel the stubble on them.  I remember sitting on his lap and him smiling at me.  He didn't seem to be bothered by it at all.  Somehow this amused my 4-year-old self.

My  memory of my paternal grandmother during that trip was kneeling down with her on the cement floor, in the open patio, as she scrubbed the clothes in a metal basin full of sudsy water.  I think I even dipped my hands in the water so that I could help her.

What stories  do you remember?

Family History TUESDAY: What musical instrument do you wish you could play?

Wouldn't it be cool to know how to play the violin so well, that you could just go out to any corner and play it for the masses?

That is just what this girl decided to do on the opening day of a new shopping center in my town.

{I found my question prompt at designzbydede
She will post a new question every Tuesday.}

1,000 days

I just finished a book by Shannon Hale called "Book of a Thousand Days".  It's about a princess who refuses to marry the man her father wants her to marry. As her punishment she, along with her maid, are banished to live in a tower for 7 years. The guards around the tower are ordered to put an arrow through her if she escapes.

The book is a journal, written by the maid who begins at "Day 1".

The title refers to a saying that the mother of the maid has told her:
"Mama used to say, you have to know someone a thousand days before you can glimpse her soul."
Guess what? ...two weeks after I glimpsed my fiance's soul, I married him.

Blondie

Do you ever wake up with  song in your head? I do. just about every day.

This morning's song was Heart of Glass by Blondie.

I think I was about 9 or 10 years old when this song came out. I instantly loved it and had to have it.

One day I was at SEARS with my parents. They said I could get one record. I think I must have jumped for joy! I knew exactly what I was going to get. I rifled through the large display of 45rpm records and found it enclosed in a royal blue paper cover.

I couldn't wait to get home so I could play it on our record player in the living room.

This was the first of many maNY MAny favorite songs to come!

"Once I had love, and it was a gas, soon turned out
     Had a heart of glass.
Seemed like the real thing, only to find,
     Mucho mistrust.
     Love's gone behind...."

What was your first favorite song?
